Fabien Marvin
Fabien started his training in Trinidad and later relocated to Martinique, to pursue a more formal training at the Art Institute IRAVM (Martinique). His art is said to be influenced by some of his mentors/professors; Bertin Nivor and Bruno Pedurand also that of the Trinidadian artist Leroy Clarke. Marvin Fabien is currently (in 2013/2014) working on his new project, called ARTISTIC MUSIC STORYTELLING. It is a mixture of all the genres of expression which he has mastered, art, music, videao, and poetry. It indicates that the Dominican environment fostered this process of work since there was no major specialization in any genre of artwork and the artistic culture was heavily influenced by all other external cultures.
The term "bouyon" is relevant in what Marvin Fabien is trying to express in his aesthetics approach. This term means the mixing ,the blend of all, influenced by the different cultures presents in Dominica (Kalinago, African, Western...). This lead to the creation of a new multidisciplinary form of expression. This is expressed in the art piece through symbols and codes which are elements we absorb everyday unconsciously and that the artist recreate.
His purpose is to integrate more the spectator into his work and to make people more aware about the icons and symbols.
