Joël Nankin
Born in Guadeloupe in 1955, Joël Nanquin began painting in prison after the events of May 1967. He explored several techniques at the time, including portraits in pencil.
Later he traveled to Haiti where he developed his own form of painting while working in painters’ workshops and with Haitian masters like Dodard,
Today, Joël Nankin earns his living from his art and exhibits in numerous countries. He also works with other artists on street projects and a variety of esthetic endeavors.
This atypical artist, in constant search of novelty, sees painting as a thought process and a commitment. He is one of the founders of the group Akiyo.
