Michelle Cox
In November 2014, durong the annual general assembly, Michelle Cox succeed to Rawle Gibbons, as President of CaribNet.
Michelle Cox has been actively involved in theatre and dance for over 25 years. Her full-time career began in 1999 after completing the Associate Degree in Performing Arts at the Barbados Community College.Â
She has extensive experience in technical theatre, where she specialised in stage management until 2007.Â
In 2002, Michelle continued her training in Theatre Arts at the University of the West Indies (St. Augustine campus), after which she lectured at the University's Centre for Creative and Festival Arts. As a student, she was awarded the Earl Warner Scholarship by the Earl Warner Trust Association, as well as the Earl Warner prize for the best theatre arts student of her graduating class at UWI.Â
While in Trinidad, Michelle also worked as an Events Planner at the University of Trinidad and Tobago and became a facilitator and associate of two educative theatre companies: Arts-in-Action and The Barcam. In 2009, she completed her Master of Arts qualification at the University of London where she studied Applied Drama: Theatre in Educational, Community and Social Contexts. In London, she worked as a freelance Lighting Designer at the Leicester Square Underground Theatre and as an Artist Assistant with the London National Trust.Â
As an Arts Administrator, Michelle was the Cultural Officer - Theatre Arts at the National Cultural Foundation of Barbados, and is presently the Coordinator for the Theatre Arts Programme at the Barbados Community College, where she has been teaching since 2009.Â
She is also an outgoing Director on the Board of the Caribbean Network of Art Presenters (CaribNet) and has been leading the CaribNet internal database project, which has been extended into the international database project, KAMACUKA, through Gens de la Caraïbe.
Michelle has conducted workshops and seminar presentations regionally, mostly focusing on the integration of arts in educational settings.Â
She is also an upcoming director and young playwright, with her work having a specific emphasis on reflecting and experimenting with the Caribbean form and aesthetic. With experience in entertainment, educational and corporate sectors, Michelle aims to contribute to the regional development of the arts through her various responsibilities.
