Shevaughn Ragbir
A current University of the West Indies student (BA Theatre Arts) and the artistic director of the newly formed community group Tableland Youth Performing Company, Shevaughn Ragbir grasps at every learning opportunity to assist him in achieving his full potential.
He believes by being discipline, educated, self-motivated and taking calculated risks; that the stars no longer become the limit but unknown galaxies become available for enjoyment and exploration.
Born in October 1990 in South Trinidad, he is a confident/experienced theatre practitioner who is working his way in fulfilling one of his visions of owning a Theatre Company where he can write, direct and produce original stage productions.
His love for Theatre began in 2002 where he performed in the Secondary School’s drama festival (Erroll Hill’s, Dance Bongo). Some of his memorable performance roles were in ‘The Catalyst (nominated for best dramatic production 2006)’, ‘Hyarima’, and 50/25; where he played the lead characters John Seymore, Warrior 1 and Old Man respectively. 50/25 was performed at an International Youth Theatre Festival (Contacting The World) in Manchester July 2012.
Shevaughn is one of Arts-in-Action’s (a premier Applied Creative Arts company in the Caribbean) actor-teacher/facilitator. He was apart of various Theatre in Education (TIE) and Drama in Education (DIE) workshops and presentations. Some of these interactive workshops were done for Primary and Secondary School students, in government educational programs, children homes and non-government organizations.
These sessions dealt with various social topics and issues including HIV/AIDS, choices, and work ethics and in some cases carnival and other cultural art forms. Â
He is also a musician for ‘Ah Peelin Feelings Playback Theatre Co’ which is the only playback theatre company in Trinidad.
