Kamodjaka (gwoKA MOdern JAzz KArayib) is a dance company and school co-founded by Raymonde Pater-Torin which uses the gwoka dance in its contemporary environment to reflect on current issues like AIDS, student emigration, the deterioration of nature, and insularity.Â
Raymonde Pater-Torin strives to raise awareness among her students and the general public using the toumblak chiré variant, sometimes with violence and not often with happy ends… which is reflected in the titles of her programs.Â
