Raymonde Pater-Torin began her career as a sports instructor and high-performance athlete (basketball champion of Guadeloupe and Antilles-French Guyana). As a young adult in the 1980’s, during the period of strong identity and cultural assertion in Guadeloupe, she joined the first group of female percussionists, Kasangwa.
